Abstract Ethoxyacetylene slowly adds phenyl isocyanate to yield 4‐ethoxy‐2‐quinolone I (R=H). A similar reaction occurs with p‐tolyl isocyanate. From the Grignard derivative of ethylthioacetylene and phenyl isocyanate the anilide of ethylthiopropynoic acid VIII is obtained. The corresponding reaction with ethoxyacetylene does not yield a pure product.
