Abstract A series of poly (phthalazinone ether sulfone ketone) (PPESK)/silica hybrid materials with different contents of SiO2 was prepared by sol-gel process with soluble poly (phthalazinone ether sulfone ketone) and SiO2 sol in NMP solution. Dynamic mechanical properties of PPESK/SiO2 hybrid uniform coatings have been investigated by using dynamic mechanical thermal analysis (DMTA). The results indicated that SiO2 content and scanning frequency had some effect on dynamic mechanical properties and glass transition of PPESK/SiO2 hybrid materials. The glass transition temperature dependence of dynamic mechanical properties of PPESK/silica hybrid composites were significantly enhanced as the SiO2 content was increased and reached maximum as 25 wt% SiO2 was loaded into the PPESK matrix. The damping peaks were found to increase with increasing of SiO2 content and move to high temperature. Increasing of scanning frequencies, the damping peaks of hybrid materials shift to high temperature. In addition, the Arrhenius relationship has been used to calculate the activation energy of α-transition of PPESK/SiO2 hybrid composites.
