Abstract The new compounds Ca 4 In 2 N and Sr 4 In 2 N crystallize in the tetragonal system (space group I4 1 /amd, No. 141). In and Ca together form a rocksalt structure. All octahedral holes, which are built by Ca only, are occupied by nitrogen. The In atoms form In-In zig-zag-chains; the In-In bond lengths are 316.4 pm (Ca compound) and 332.0 pm (Sr compound), resp.
