An alpha-HI correlation measurement was performed to see whether the 12C-12C molecular resonance states can be populated in the 12C(16O, alpha ) reaction. The cross sections of such processes were small, if any. Instead, the sequential alpha-decay processes of 20Ne* and 16O* mainly contribute to the molecular-resonance-like structures in the alpha spectra.
