Novel abrasion-resistant nanocomposites based on poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) as matrix and calcium carbonate (CaCO3) nanopowder as filler have been prepared by an in situ polymerization process. The influence of nanopowders on the chemical−physical properties of the polymeric matrix have been investigated by performing thermal, morphological, and mechanical analysis. The abrasion resistance has also been evaluated. The nanocomposites showed an average weight loss about half with respect to that of neat PMMA, by adding only 2% of nanoparticles.
