The zenith angle distribution of extensive air showers at sea level: a measure of shower development

Abstract

Measurements and computer simulations have been made of the zenith angle distribution of extensive air showers at sea level. The observed distribution is found to be sensitive to the properties of the primary particle interactions and, with present modelling, is not compatible with a purely heavy particle primary composition.
