Highly oriented poly(2,5-dimethoxy-p-phenylenevinylene) MO-PPV thin films were obtained by use of the Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) technique. In the MO-PPV LB films, MO-PPV chains formed uniaxial orientation along the dipping direction in addition to ordinary planar orientation due to the use of the LB technique. Anisotropy of third-harmonic generation was observed in the oriented LB film; third-order susceptibilities χ (3) in the directions parallel and perpendicular to the orientation axis were estimated to be 2.9×10 -10 esu and 0.75×10 -10 esu at the fundamental wavelength of 1.064 µm, respectively.
