1. A simple method for the bio-assay of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid in aqueous solution is described, whereby the activity of the compound is measured by its ability to inhibit the elongation of the primary root of germinating corn seed. 2. Unknown concentrations of the compound, ranging from 1/100 to 2 p.p.m., can be accurately determined by this method; it is less accurate for amounts between 2 and 4 p.p.m. and is suitable only for preliminary testing in the range of 4-10 p.p.m. and above.
