Abstract

A new technique has been developed for the measurement of electrophoretic mobility of colloidal suspensions in liquids of very low dielectric constant (D≃2) at electric field strengths as high as a few times 104 V/cm. The technique is based on a pulsed electric field. It provides a photographic record of the particle motion and is capable of studying relatively fast transient effects (a few milliseconds or more in duration). Some preliminary data are presented as an application of this method.
