Abstract

The flotation characteristic differences between sodium oleate (SO) and modified sodium oleate (MSO) have been studied in this article. Pure mineral flotation results have shown that MSO is more tolerant to fluctuations in pH, pulp temperature, and reagent dosages than SO. Adsorption tests, zeta potential measurements, and solution chemistry analysis have revealed that MSO has a greater collecting ability to quartz than SO because of the double collecting groups of MSO. A concentrate of 1.01% higher Fe grade, 0.83% higher Fe recovery, and 1.05% lower SiO2 grade can be achieved in laboratory ore flotation by using MSO as the collector.
