Formation of platinum Y-junction nanostructures through templated electrodeposition using hierarchically designed alumina membranes is demonstrated for the first time. These unique nanostructures reveal enhanced electrocatalytic activity toward both formic acid (up to 270%) and ethanol oxidation (up to 180%), which are of immense relevance to fuel cell technology.
