Novel long-chain acrylate based copolymers containing triphenylene groups have been synthesized which will open up new opportunities to synthesize discotic networks with columnar structure. This structure exists in the copolymer even when a non-discotic comonomer is introduced up to 75 mol-%. The cross-linking of the material allows the creation of networks with columnar discotic structure. Orientation of the columnar LC phase can be achieved by stretching the network, which results in the alignment of the columns along the stretching axes.
