Abstract Aromatization of 3‐ketotetrahydrothiophen enamines (II) furnishes 3‐dialkyl‐aminothiophens (III). Reduction of the enamines with formic acid yields the tetrahydro derivatives (V). These compounds represent the first examples of simple 3‐ tert ‐amino‐thiophens and ‐tetrahydrothiophens.
