Recent Advances in Thrombosis

Abstract

This volume is intended to complement the<i>Recent Advances in Blood Coagulation</i>. Once again, Dr. Poller has assembled a panel of experts and has done an excellent job coordinating their various contributions. The first article is an overview of thrombosis and thrombosis research by Dr. Owren, followed by a section devoted to the epidemiology, diagnosis, pathology, and treatment of venous thrombotic disease. Subsequently, Fletcher and Alkaersig discuss the laboratory diagnosis of intravascular coagulation with special emphasis on their procedures for its detection. Platelet physiology, and the role of the platelet in thrombosis, is then followed by a discussion of fibrinolytic therapy. The concluding sections of the book deal with oral contraceptives and clinical thrombosis, and a discussion of the immunological and molecular characteristics of fibrinogen and fibrin cleavage fragments.
