Abstract The thermodynamics of metal/hydrogen systems are reviewed. Emphasis is placed on the thermodynamic properties of hydrogen dissolved in single solid phase regions. Methods of investigation are discussed. A brief survey of recent results on binary metal alloy/hydrogen systems is presented.
