Much attention has been given to the cavity ionization chamber method of Xand 7-ray dosimetry, and a detailed survey of the different approaches to this subject would be necessarily lengthy. For reasons of space no systematic review of previous work in this field can be attempted; instead a new analysis is given which takes account of the discontinuous energy losses by electrons in the form of 6tracks. Spencer and Attix (1) promise a detailed account of a new theory which includes the effects of 6-tracks, but, judging from the condensed version given in reference 1, it differs both in approach and conclusions from the theory presented here.
