Nonlinear switching in InGaAsP laser amplifier directional couplers biased at transparency

Abstract

Ridge waveguide laser amplifier directional couplers have been developed to exploit recent observations of ultrafast refractive index changes in amplifiers biased at transparency. All-optical self-switching has been observed in a device with a bulk active region.
