New carbosilane ferroelectric liquid crystalline dendrimers

Abstract

Abstract For the first time two series of carbosilane liquid crystalline dendrimers of generations 1 – 3 with 8, 16 and 32 terminal ethyl-L-lactate-containing mesogenic groups, respectively, have been synthesized. Structures and purity of ail new compounds were confirmed by 1H NMR spectroscopy and GPC analysis. All the LC dendrimers synthesized exhibit a chiral smectic C mesophase in a broad temperature range. The spontaneous polarization was measured. It has been found that spontaneous polarization is reduced with increase of generation number.
