Sum Rules for Variational Wavefunctions

Abstract

It is demonstrated that the finite set of wavefunctions obtained by applying the variational principle to a linear combination of basis functions provides bonds to a number of sum rules and that by appropriate choice of the basis functions certain of the sum rules can be satisfied exactly.
