Abstract

This supplement reflects on the progress made towards the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDG), with particular respect to child health. The goals, adopted by 189 countries, were set by the United Nations in 2000 and related to what could be achieved by 2015. They highlighted a set of specific targets. They related to key themes—eradication of extreme poverty and hunger, achieve universal primary education, promote gender equality and empower women, reduce child mortality, improve maternal health, combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases, ensure environmental sustainability and develop a global partnership for development.
