A one-dimensional model for the near-cathode region of electric arcs is applied to define the current, heat and mass transfer mechanisms in the electron temperature range of 10-40 kK and the pressure range of 104-107 Pa. The model considers details of the space charge zone, the ionization zone and evaporation of the cathode material.
