Abstract The quadrupole interactions of the 2 + states of Sm, W, and Os isotopes have been studied by using time‐integrated perturbed angular correlations. It has been possible to derive the electric field gradients by applying known data of the quadrupole moments of the implanted probe nuclei. A comparison with the calculated ionic contribution of the lattice shows that great importance has to be attributed to the conduction electrons.
