Abstract

Red emitting phosphor excited by blue-near ultra violet light emitting diode is being expected for new application of lightings. In our previous work, it was obtained that anataze- and rutile-type TiO2:Eu, and metal-Ti-O:Eu showed red emission of Eu3+ f–f transition. Mg-Ti-O:Eu showed strong emission peaked at 615 nm excited by 380 nm of Xe lamp, however there are some different structures based on Mg-Ti-O. In this study, Mg-Ti-O:Eu powders were synthesized by sol-gel method and compared the characteristics with each materials. From the result, MgTiO3:Eu showed red emission on photo- and cathodoluminescence. Mg2TiO4:Eu showed deep red emission peaked at 658 nm under excited by 325 nm, and violet-blue emission peaked at 415 nm excited by electron beam. MgTi2O5:Eu showed red and blue-violet emission on photo- and cathodoluminescence, respectively. It indicates that main transition level of Eu3+ was changed by crystal field of the host material even if the composition elements are same. (© 2006 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)
