In small children undergoing pulmonary lobectomy, both thoracoscopy and thoracotomy are associated with similar perioperative outcomes. The cosmetic and musculoskeletal benefits of the thoracoscopic approach must be balanced against institutional expertise and a potentially higher risk for complications in younger patients.
