Because calcium is known to have a positive inotropic effect on the heart, the present study was designed to ascertain the prevalence of hypercalcemia in patients with idiopathic hypertrophic subaortic stenosis.Idiopathic hypertrophic subaortic stenosis was documented in 31 patients at the Eugene Talmadge Memorial Hospital during 1972-1977.
