Abstract

The effect of valence protons in sub-barrier fusion reactions has been investigated. Excitation functions of residual masses were measured for the reactions $^{35}\mathrm{Cl}$+A(N=28), i.e., $^{35}\mathrm{Cl}$${+}^{50}$Ti, $^{51}\mathrm{V}$, $^{52}\mathrm{Cr}$, $^{54}\mathrm{Fe}$, and $^{54}\mathrm{Cr}$ from 0.85 to 1.5 times the Coulomb barrier. The data show no systematic isotonic dependence of the fusion or residual mass excitation functions in spite of the positive Q values for some nucleon transfer channels.
