FePt nanoparticles with controlled degree of fluorinated ligands are assembled on surfaces to form higher hierarchical structures by a simple drop casting technique. Place exchange reactions provide tunability of the film morphology and concomitant modulation of the surface from hydrophobic to superhydrophobic (see figure).
