Abstract Red blood cell count and haemoglobin content for blood of normal adult salamanders, Taricha granulosa , are presented. The RBC count is some 4 × 10 4 /mm 3 blood and the haemoglobin level some 4.5 gm/100 ml blood. Some evidence suggesting transient changes in these levels for a brief period immediately following hibernation is discussed.
