Abstract

To the Editor.— We are compelled to respond to the two letters (225:995, 996, 1973) in which the authors commented on our article (224:1634, 1973). These suggest that we studied only 28 patients biochemically. This is inaccurate, since it is perspicuously stated on page 1635. ... we reviewed the chemical and skull roentgenographic findings in of our patients, with special emphasis.... The word many in the paragraph is admittedly vague and perhaps misleading, and we would like to clarify its meaning. Following the publication of Kruse's paper, we examined the records of 2,500 of the 15,000 patients with epilepsy who had been referred to our clinic, and were unable to elicit a single case with clinical or biochemical evidence of rickets. We believed that 2,500 patients was an adequate sample and did not pursue our retrospective survey further. The 28 patients referred to in each of the two letters comprised
