Perkoff and colleagues (4) suggested that urea may have a specific effect on glucose metabolism in uremia. They reported a decreased rate of glucose disappearance from the blood of normal subjects fed urea for several days but were unable to detect any influence of urea on the uptake of glucose by rat diaphragm in vitro. Sagild (5) reported that glucose tolerance in patients with acute renal failure was abnormal and that it...References1. HAMMANHIRSCHMAN LII: Studies on blood sugar. Arch. Intern. Med.
