Abstract

Heterogeneous catalytic hydrogenation of organic compounds in supercritical fluids (SCFs) is reviewed, covering the work published up to 2007. The potential as well as limitations of the application of SCFs as solvents are examined based on the existing knowledge. SCFs, particularly CO2, offer some attractive opportunities as substitutes of classical organic solvents, but their beneficial application requires careful weighing of economical and ecological factors.
