Weak interaction processes on deuterium: Muon capture and neutrino reactions

Abstract

A detailed calculation of the capture rate for ${\mathrm{\ensuremath{\mu}}}^{\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}}$+d\ensuremath{\rightarrow}${\ensuremath{\nu}}_{\mathrm{\ensuremath{\mu}}}$+n+n is carried out and the result compared with the latest data. Within the same framework we also calculate the cross sections of \ensuremath{\nu}+d and \ensuremath{\nu}\ifmmode\bar\else\textasciimacron\fi{}+d reactions for incident energies ${\mathit{E}}_{\ensuremath{\nu}}$\ensuremath{\le}170 MeV in view of the importance of these cross sections for studying astrophysical neutrinos with the use of a heavy-water \ifmmode \check{C}\else \v{C}\fi{}erenkov counter.
