Abstract The alkoxy groups present ortho to carbonyl group in alkoxybenzaldehydes are selectively deprotected in high yields leaving other alkoxy groups unaffected by cerium(III) chloride–NaI in refluxing acetonitrile under neutral reaction conditions.
