Abstract

The conduction-cooled high- T c (Bi, Pb) 2 Sr 2 Ca 2 Cu 3 O 10 superconducting magnet has been successfully operated using a Gifford-McMahon-type (GM) refrigerator. The magnet continuously generates a magnetic field of 1 T inside a 40 mm bore with a coil temperature of 20 K while held in a vacuum for over 100 hours. The coil is wound using a reacted Ag-sheathed 61-multifilamentary tape which has already been found to have excellent bending properties.
