Abstract

We study the dynamical instability of a spherically symmetric fluid which collapses non-adiabatically undergoing dissipation in the form of a radial heat flow. The Newtonian and post-Newtonian limits are considered and the range for dynamical instability for the ratio of specific heats Γ is given. We show that the Newtonian correction due to dissipation increases the instability of the fluid while the relativistic correction due to dissipation makes the fluid less unstable.
