Abstract

We report experimental detection of a newly recognized, spectrally diffuse circular polarization in light from various incandescent bodies in a magnetic field. Polarization fractions of ${10}^{\ensuremath{-}5}$ -${10}^{\ensuremath{-}4}$ are seen at 1.5\ensuremath{\mu}m in a 25-kG field, roughly conforming with a very simple theory.
