Selenium heterocycles XII. Heat induced transformation of 1,2,3‐Selenadiazoles to disubstituted selenophenes

Abstract

Abstract 4‐Aryl‐1, 2, 3‐selenadiazoles when subjected to heat afforded 2, 5‐diarylselenophenes and small quantities of 2,4‐diarylseneophenes. Monoarylacetylenes and selenium behaved similarly. Phenylacetylene and sulfur gave 2,4‐diphenylthiophene. Mechanistic aspects of these reactions are discussed.
