Efficient short-pulse XUV laser on Ne-like titanium

A collisionally excited transient population inversion XUV-laser on [Ne]-like titanium has been realized using a table top terawatt laser. At the lasing wavelength of 32.6 nm a high gain value of 19 plus or minus 1.4 cm<SUP>-1</SUP> has been obtained using plasma columns of 2 to 5 mm length.
