A general circuit analysis of the trigger circuit originally due to O. Schmitt (1938), namely a differential pair containing positive feedback, is presented. The analysis technique is illustrated by applying it to the well-known case of a bipolar Schmitt trigger. The result is a simplified and thus more transparent analysis. The same technique also gives an exact analysis of the MOS version of the same circuit.< <ETX xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">></ETX>
