Unusual Structures Observed in X-Ray Emission from Laser-Irradiated Targets

Abstract

X-ray images of laser-irradiated solid targets show spicular structures in the blowoff plasma. Higher density is inferred in the structures, which seem to follow the fluid flow from the target. An explanation involving localized fast-electron production is offered.
