Abstract

Summary Solution of ammonium chloride, magnesium chloride and calcium chloride were infused locally into the adrenal arterial blood supply of conscious sheep with autotransplanted adrenal glands. At rates of infusion calculated to increase ammonia concentration by 1 mEq./l, or more. NH 4 Cl increased aldosterone secretion without a regular effect on glucocorticoid secretion. Increase of plasma magnesium concentration by 1–6 mEq./l. or plasma calcium by 2–10 mEq./l. did not affect aldosterone secretion.
