Abstract

The magnetic susceptibility of a pure specimen of metallic uranium has been measured over the temperature range 15° to 920°c. It is proved that sudden changes in susceptibility accompany the α-β and β-γ phase changes at 660°c and 767°c respectively. The results are compared with those of other workers, and the difficulties of providing an adequate explanation of the thermomagnetic behaviour are outlined.
