In patients treated with lipid-lowering agents, the vasodilator response to acetylcholine is related to the susceptibility of LDL to oxidation. These findings suggest that oxidative stress is an important determinant of the coronary endothelial dysfunction observed in patients with atherosclerosis and hypercholesterolemia.
