It is now established that the injection of tuber- culin into the cerebrospinal fluid (C.S.F.) of a sensitized subject evokes a wave of inflammation involving the leptomeninges and, to some extent, the vessels of the brain and spinal cord. The properties of this reaction have been studied in both man (Smith and Vollum, 1950; Swithinbank, Smith, and Vollum, 1953) and animals It is undoubtedly a true antibody-antigen response; it exerts a profound effect on the per- meability of the blood-C.S.F. barrier
