It is shown that is an excellent host lattice to obtain efficient VUV excited photoluminescent materials at room temperature. The introduction of ions in the lanthanum metaborate host lattice increases both the ionicity of the metal‐ligand bonding and the energy transfer rate between the host and the activator.
