Abstract

An eleventh-order Hylleraas type of wave function for the negative hydrogen ion has been determined by the Ritz method, giving for the lowest state an energy of -0.52756 atomic units. The continuous ab- sorption coefficient has also been computed, using this new wave function. The absorption-curve is found to have its maximum at 7500 A. A calculation of the color-temperature--effective-temperature relation from 4100 A to 6500 A showed that the discrepancy between theory and observation is considerably reduced
