The molecular structure of 8-vertex capped closo-[(Ph3P)2HRuCB6H4(OMe)3] has been elucidated by an X-ray diffraction study. The cluster features a unique RuCB6 skeleton and cage geometry which is based on a boron-capped pentagonal bipyramid. This constitutes the first reported example of metallacarboranes with an “isolated” (nonfused) polyhedron exhibiting such geometry.
