This paper reviews the seven specific plant enzymes which have been shown or suggested, to date, to undergo reversible covalent modification by regulatory phosphorylation, including mitochondrial pyruvate dehydrogenase (EC 1.2.4.1), chloroplastic pyruvate, orthophosphate dikinase (EC 2.7.9.1) and ribulose bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase (EC 4.1.1.39), cytoplasmic phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase (EC 4.1.1.31) and 6‐phosphofructo‐2‐kinase (EC 2.7.1.105), microsomal hydroxymethylglutaryl ‐ CoA reductase (EC 1.1.1.34), and quinate: NAD+ oxidoreductase (EC 1.1.1.24).
