Abstract Susceptibility to audiogenic seizures in SJL/J mice is affected by exposure to loud sound during a sensitive age period. The effect is similar to that reported by Henry for strain C57BL/6J. In 3‐week‐old mice, priming by sound requires 5 to 20 sec; sensitization, 30 to 36 hr; convulsibility lasts for at least 21 weeks without any intervening stimulation. Repeated stimulation prior to development of convulsibility makes mice temporarily refractory to sound induction of seizures.
