Pharmacological Findings during Azidocillin Treatment of Chest Infections

Abstract

10 patients received azidocillin for respiratory infections and all but one improved. Serial serum levels were measured in 8 subjects. After oral administration much lower levels resulted, as compared with intramuscular therapy. Only a low proportion of the serum level could be assayed in the sputum but this would usually inhibit Haemophilus influenzae and always pneumococci. Particularly if administered intramuscularly, azidocillin has an important place in the management of chest infections.
